ALABAMA 6/2005 Bandit is neutered and up to date on his shots. (He is due again in  August 2005). Bandit is house trained, but he did have a few accidents when he  first got to his new foster home. Bandit was an owner turn in due to the  family not being able to take care of him anymore because of new premature twins  that have recently joined the family. Bandit was jeolous of the babies, so  he should not be adopted by a family with children. He has only lived with one  family until now. Bandit is a lovable dog that has his favorite stuff  animals. He is living with 3 other dogs right now, a male and female WFT  and a male Rat Terrier. They all seem to get along fairly well. Bandit should be  adopted by a  family the has WFT experience and has a fence. He must be on a  leash or he will run in the street and every where else he can go as fast as he  can.  He is playful and energetic.  Bandit does growl  when he trys to tell you he doesn't want to do something, like get out  from under the bed or off the couch and go outside.  He needs a strong  owner who won't spoil him too much. Bandit eats Iams lamb and  rice formula (about a cup a day).  He weighs 17/18 lbs.  He is very  protective of his food, and does better if left in a closed room by himself to  eat. Bandit sleeps in the bed with with his foster Mom and the other three dogs.  Bandit enjoys riding in the car -- he gets really  excited.  Contact: Leslie at shmrck1317@aol.com  Wire fox terrier

MISSISSIPPI 4/2005 Sophie is five years old, and weighs 17 lbs.  She is a bundle of activity, and is terrier through and through.  Sophie loves to play with her toys and to go for walks on the leash.  Typical of a lot of terriers, Sophie gets along with only the most submissive male dogs and does not like cats or any other small animals.  Sophie is very loving with her people, and likes to give kisses and get scratched.  Because of a bladder problem that results is a slight leakage, Sophie needs to go outside regularly and wears panties in the house.  Sophie takes an inexpensive medication daily called Proin, which she prefers with a little peanut butter.

Sophie was purchased by a young family from a breeder in Austin, TX.  The owners had extensive tests run because Sophie was incontinent.  When they were faced with surgery, the owners chose to have Sophie euthanized because they could not bear the expense of the surgery.  The veterinarian did not put Sophie to sleep, and placed Sophie with a new owner who had the bladder surgery performed.  At age four, the living situation of the new owner changed.  Her new live in boyfriend was not nice to Sophie, and kept feeding her dangerous things like chicken bones.  Rather than give up the boyfriend, the owner surrendered Sophie to rescue.

AFTR took Sophie, and found that the previous bladder surgery had failed and the bladder had slipped back out of place.  A surgeon from Mississippi State Veterinary Hospital performed the surgery again, taking care to securely tack the bladder in place.  Unfortunately, Sophie acquired a serious infection after the surgery and almost died. In her typical terrier fashion, Sophie pulled through and recovered nicely.

Sophie was adopted from AFTR by a nice couple and stayed with them five months.  The husband was then transferred from his job and the couple did not feel they could care for Sophie, so she was returned to AFTR.

Sophie is currently living with an AFTR volunteer.  She is not getting along at all with the volunteer's female, and needs to find a new home as soon as possible.  Please help Sophie find a forever home, where she can live out the rest of her years in one place.

SOUTH CAROLINA 4/2005 "CASSIE", a Wire Fox Terrier, is about 4 years old and, except for heart worms, she is in good health. The children in the home loved her and she did well with them. At our home she has done well with children and our dog, our little guy was just a liitle jealous but now they play together and lick on each other.
