Toby's Story

Toby is a story about a boy that’s had a hard life. We don’t know a lot, but this purebred smooth fox terrier found himself at a metro Atlanta GA shelter in early January. Its known as a high-kill shelter as many in the area are.

One of our AFTR rescuers saw his beautiful face and knew this was a pure Smooth Fox Terrier and she had to save him. She adopted him from the shelter and thought he had a case of flea dermatitis as his backside was raw and obviously had not been cared for.  She took him immediately to her vet and discovered to her dismay that he had ringworm…not a terrible fate but one that meant that he would have to be quarantined since ringworm is contagious.

So, little Toby began a life in a vet cage, safe but unable to play and socialize the way that foxy terriers want. He was treated and after a very long month, retested, only to find out that the initial medicine had not cleared up the ringworm. Our rescuer was at her wits end.  She had run up a sizeable vet bill and with no options she had to consider the odds. Could she afford to continue treating him?  Was there a loving forever home out there for Toby?

Toby is between 6 and 10, still very young at heart and wants to play with other animals. We decided that a case of ringworm should not be a death sentence for any dog….it is treatable and he will be a healthy, happy boy fully recovered and ready to be someone’s darling boy.

You can see in his photos he has a beautiful expressive face. And his pitiful backside is still healing. Unlike most of our special needs dogs, Toby does not need any expensive surgery. He just needs the chance to heal properly and as soon as he is pronounced ringworm-free, he needs his forever home waiting for him.

We have only a few more weeks of treatment, but we need your help…just a few dollars from foxy lovers like you can make the difference so that this boy has a happy future. Ringworm can affect any dog and it shouldn’t be a death sentence….if you agree, please click on the secure Paypal button below or send a check to our treasurer Lee, with “For Toby” at the address below. Remember as a 501c3 non-profit, your tax deductable gift can benefit us both.  Thank you from all of us at AFTR and all the dogs we work to save!!
