Mill Dog Update - as of 12/16/2005

As of December 16, 2005, surgeries and amputations have been performed on the mill dogs.  They've all been neutered, had their teeth cleaned, have tested negative for heart worm, full blood panels have been run and all are in good general health.  They were all anemic, had worms, giardia, ear mites and infections, but have been treated for all issues and are feeling much better.

Rebel

Rebel the day we got him. Rebel on 12/16/2005.  Rebel is feeling much better these days. He is happy and loves to play. He will be coming up to Minnesota to see a surgical specialist at the University of Minnesota to see if we can fix his face and make him a little prettier - but we think he's a doll regardless!

Nora

This is Nora. She came in with Smirk, and they're rather attached to each other. She had surgery to fix a Patellar Luxation. Nora likes Lisa, who works at Avenue of The Saints Animal Hospital.  Nora has been treated for giardia, ear mites, parasites and fleas.  Nora is a doll, but she doesn't like to be crated. She really likes people. This is little Nora, in her E-Collar. She likes to remove her own sutures!!! "Ok, take it off, I promise I wont do it any more!"

Tres

This is one of the boys. He is shy and timid, but gets around really well. He is doing fine and he doesn't know it yet, but will someday realize that life can be good. We hope someday he will learn to trust again. We wish you well baby.

Star

This is our Star. He is the most outgoing and he gets around really well. He can be frisky, playful and already shows Terrier attitude. He is the dog who came in with a badly infected, red, swollen hind leg. He is amazing and we love them all but this guy shines! This is "Our Star" again. He makes eye contact and likes people, even though he was badly let down by some. We will make it up to him by giving him a chance at a great new life! Star likes to go for strolls around the clinic. It's amazing how well he can walk and he can even run already!  What a difference in two weeks!

Charity

This is Charity, a little female. She was the dog who had her leg gone at the knee with the bone bent back. She was trying to walk on the stump for what appears to have been a long time. This little girl is the most traumatized by her life in Hell. She is frightened easily, jumps when petted, gets  stressed and drools. She has improved, however, and in the right foster home will shine someday. She needs a quiet foster home with patience and a gentle touch, and lots of time and love to give. When Charity was coming out of anesthetic, she rolled and screamed, and was very frightened. The vet techs at the clinic placed her in a quiet, dark room and played a CD of Nature Sounds for her. It calmed her down. Even though she is frightened she loves to be held, rather than petted. Holding her seems to calm her. I whistled loud and Charity finally made eye contact. She is improving every day. It's a slow process. She has fought so hard to live, and she has earned all the time she needs. Charity had 1 1/2 inch of her top lip missing. Dr. Frost repaired it, and it will not be noticeable when her hair grows in. Dr. Frost took a flap of skin, rotated it to cover the hole, and sutured it in. It looks sore now but it will heal. She now has a complete lip. Charity has definitely suffered a lot of pain in her life. I hope she can forget the pain and find happiness.
